Deron Williams on coming off bench: 'Doesn't really matter to me'

The Brooklyn Nets have looked broken for a good chunk of the season. Now that they're looking a little less damaged, don't expect head coach Lionel Hollins to change things.

When Deron Williams sat for two games this week, the Nets won back-to-back outings to shake a three-game losing streak. Williams returned and came off the bench on Friday, with the team extending the winning streak to three, their first such streak of the season.

That likely means Williams will continue to come off the bench, at least while he remains on a minutes restriction because of a right calf strain. That's no bother to him, even though Friday marked just the seventh time coming off the bench since 2005-06.

"I'm all for the team," Williams said. "It doesn't really matter to me. I'm still trying to get my rhythm back ... The first group is going well together right now, so there's no reason to change anything up."

That starting group features Jarrett Jack, who's been hot, averaging 19.7 points and 7.7 assists while shooting 53.7 percent during the winning streak. The current starting unit - which also includes Mason Plumlee in place of Brook Lopez - has actually been outscored by 4.8 points per-100 possessions while the season-opening starting five has outscored opponents by 3.6 points per-100 possessions, but Hollins seems comfortable riding the hot hands.

In 26 games, Williams is averaging 15.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.7 assists, numbers that are up from a year ago but coming in a less efficient manner. It's somewhat disappointing considering he started the season so hot that he felt nobody could guard him.
