Thad Young returns to Timberwolves following mother's death

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Thad Young returned to the Minnesota Timberwolves for practice on Monday following an absence of nearly two weeks.

Young had been on indefinite leave to be with his mother, Lula Hall, who passed away from cancer on Nov. 13. Hall had been battling cancer for 18 months, though Young said Monday that it was still something he wasn't prepared for.

"The last 10, 15 minutes of my mom’s life, I was there holding her hand and I felt her last breaths as she passed away,” Young said. "I was just happy that I was able to get the chance to get home and see her before she passed."

Returning to the team Monday, Young admitted that her death was still weighing on him but that he was hopeful a return to routine would help him through it.

He is expected to be in action when the Wolves next play, on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks.
