Kevin Garnett wants to buy Timberwolves once he retires

Kevin Garnett enjoyed his 12 seasons with the Minnesota TImberwolves so much that he wants to spend his retirement years close to the franchise.

Not as a coach, a general manager or even a season ticket holder. No, Garnett - who will have earned an estimated $327 million as an NBA player by the end of this season - wants an even bigger role with the team.

"I want to buy the Timberwolves," Garnett told Marc J. Spears from Yahoo Sports in an interview published Friday. "Put a group together and perhaps some day try to buy the team. That's what I want."

This offseason, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor revealed that he was looking to add a minority partner with an option to buy him out, as long as the person agreed to keep the team in Minnesota. His history with the team is the draw for Garnett, so he seems a good fit.

"That is the one that has my interest," Garnett said. "I have ties there. (Head coach, President of Basketball Operations, and part-owner Flip Saunders is) there."

His plans to purchase a team will have to wait if he decides to play beyond this year, something he remains noncommittal about. But the idea is definitely a fun one.
