Enes Kanter ends extension negotiations with Jazz, will become RFA

Add Enes Kanter's name to the list of restricted free agents next summer, as Kanter and the Utah Jazz have reportedly ended negotiations on a contract extension, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

“We have mutually agreed with Utah to concentrate on the season and look at our options again in the summer,” Kanter's agent Max Ergulsaid. “Enes likes Utah and the organization very much, and now he can concentrate on continuing to grow as a player and helping them win.”

The deadline for fourth-year players to sign extensions with their current teams is Oct. 31. If a deal isn't reached, the players in question will become restricted free agents come July with their current teams retaining the right to match any offseason offers.

Kanter, the third overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, averaged 12.3 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Jazz last season. The 22-year-old big man is slowly improving on the offensive end, but his defense and rim protection still leave much to be desired.

The Jazz avoided restricted free agency with fellow big man Derrick Favors by signing him to a four-year, $48 million extension shortly before last season. They also matched Charlotte's four-year, $63 million offer to Gordon Hayward in restricted free agency in July.
