Hawks to debut 3D projection system for improved in-game experience

Jason Getz / USA Today Sports

As the battle to keep fans engaged with the in-stadium experience and keep them coming to the arena rather than watching from home continues, the Atlanta Hawks are pulling out several stops.

At the team's home opener on Nov. 1, not only will rapper T.I. be performing, but the Hawks are set to debut a new projection system that they claim will be a huge boost to in in-game experience.

Below are details, per a release from the team:

The Atlanta Hawks will debut a state-of-the-art, 3D projection system when the team takes the floor for the regular season home opener versus the Indiana Pacers on Saturday, Nov. 1st. The system, created and installed in Philips Arena by Quince Imaging, will allow the entire playing surface to be used as a video screen during pregame introductions and select halftime performances.

The projection system will be on full-display during Opening Night starting with the team’s player introductions. The projection-inspired images will create a breathtaking and visually stunning experience for Hawks fans before they get set to cheer on their team.

So the entire court can be a 3D video screen? That sounds pretty cool.

The team has also said they have upgraded the sound system and video board in the arena, and on-going upgrades will have the overhead scoreboard out of commission for the remainder of the preseason.
