VIDEO: Suns owner Robert Sarver apologizes to Phoenix fans for Spurs resting players
San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has drawn ire in the past, fairly or not, for resting his star players for marquee regular-season matchups. He's been cursed by fans and even fined by the league.
But Pop doesn't tend to care. Most of his top players are getting long in the tooth, and, public perception be damned, he'll gladly sit them on occasion in the regular season to keep them fresher for the playoffs.
Apparently that tactic applies to the preseason as well, as Popovich kept Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, Manu Ginobili and even himself from making the trip to Phoenix for Thursday night's exhibition.
This did not sit well with Suns owner Robert Sarver, who felt the need to personally apologize (and offer compensatory gifts) to the fans in attendance:
For what it's worth, the Suns won 121-90.
Also, it's the preseason.
