Celtics' Rondo on 6-8 week recovery timetable: 'That means nothing to me'

Rajon Rondo doesn't think much of the prognosis he received from team doctors, who said he would need six-to-eight weeks to recover from last Friday's surgery on his fractured hand.

"This is nothing compared to what I went through with my knee," Rondo said in an interview with CSNNE's Mike Gorman, referring to his ACL tear nearly two years ago. "I'm only gonna be out for a short period of time, and hopefully I won't miss any games this year. Lord willing I heal correctly and I'll be back in no time."

When Gorman asked about the recovery timetable, which he noted would "take us to almost Thanksgiving," while the season starts in less than a month, Rondo was defiant:

"Yeah, but that means nothing to me."

Gorman then asked if Rondo would be a possibility for Opening Night at the end of October.

"Always," Rondo said, then chuckled. "I'm sure they're going to be very cautious, (team president) Danny (Ainge) already said it. When I'm ready, like I said, this isn't my knee, this is a finger."

Rondo, who will be an unrestricted free agent at season's end, has missed 125 games to injury over the past three years.
