Smith intends to avoid the three-ball and place his offensive focus in the post during the 2014-15 season, the FOX Sports Detroit reports.

Analysis:

After inking a four-year, $56 million contract with the Pistons last summer, Smith proceeded to gun from the outside, putting up a career-high 265 attempts from beyond the arc. Because he couldn't surpass his career mark -- 28 percent versus 26 in 2013-14 -- new coach and general manager Stan Van Gundy has seemingly convinced the forward that the team is best served if Smith focuses his efforts near the paint. The last season in which more than half of his shots occurred at the rim was 2009-10 -- 616 of 999 -- which is unlikely to come to pass next to Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe. However, a modest change in Smith's shot selection should result in a rebound of his shooting percentage, which has historically resided in the mid-40s but fell to a career-worst 42 percent last year.
