Nearly 2 years after microfracture surgery, Malcolm Lee to join 76ers for training camp

A second-round pick in 2011, Malcolm Lee looked to have some potential at shooting guard partway through his second season.

And then injury struck, and in January 2013 the Minnesota Timberwolves sophomore had to undergo right hip surgery and microfracture surgery on his right knee. While medical advances have come a long way, a microfracture procedure is still serious enough that the recovery period can extend well beyond a year.

Lee has been out of action for the past 21 months as a result but will get the opportunity to try and get his career back on track in training camp.

The fit with Philadelphia is obvious – the 76ers are woefully thin at the two and Lee's the type of low-cost, moderate-upside flier the team has been rolling with to fill out their roster during their rebuild. Still just 24, Lee flashed defensive potential and the early makings of a 3-point shot previously, so he's worth trying out.

In 35 career games, Lee has averaged four points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.6 steals in just 15.2 minutes.
