Report: Hornets to submit bid for 2017 or 2018 NBA All-Star Weekend

The Charlotte Hornets are preparing a bid to host NBA All-Star Weekend in hopes of bringing the league's biggest stars to North Carolina for the first time since 1991.

Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer is reporting that the Hornets plan to formally submit a bid Tuesday for either the 2017 or 2018 NBA All-Star festivities.

Potentially complicating matters, however, is a list of improvements needed to Time Warner Cable Arena that holds an estimated price tag of nearly $42 million.

“It’s part of the understanding here that the building remain state of the art,” Silver told the Charlotte Observer in March. “Nothing dramatic is needed. But certainly an upgrade to the scoreboard, some things with the suites and the lighting.”

The 2015 All-Star Weekend will be held in New York with Toronto hosting the following year.
