Report: Knicks trade Wayne Ellington to Kings for Quincy Acy and Travis Outlaw

A day after reports surfaced of New York's interest in dealing Wayne Ellington, the Knicks found a taker with the Sacramento Kings.

Sam Amick of USA Today is reporting that the Knicks have traded Ellington, and forward Jeremy Tyler for forwards Quincy Acy and Travis Outlaw. Additionally, they have lifted the restriction of their 2016 second round pick, of which was already owed to Sacramento, which is now fully unprotected. Amick also notes that more pieces could be involved as the situation develops.

The move gives the Kings salary cap relief. In shedding Outlaw's remaining $3 million for next season, waiving Tyler's unguaranteed contract and using the stretch provision on Ellington, the Kings can carve out up to $2 million off their cap this season, which should bring their salary figure further under the luxury tax line.

For the Knicks, in helping provide financial relief, they net a promising undersized power forward in Acy, who has yet to receive consistent playing time in his career, but has rated well in per-36 minute averages (career 8.7 points, 8.9 rebounds). Taking on Outlaw, who used to be one of the league's better three-point shooting wings, also helps shore up perimeter depth.
