Report: Grizzlies hire Ed Stefanski as executive vice president of player personnel

John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Memphis Grizzlies have added former Philadelphia 76ers general manager Ed Stefanski to their front office in the capacity of executive vice president of player personnel, reports Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski:

Stefanski will assume a key role in the Grizzlies' player personnel and scouting areas, serving under general manager Chris Wallace, sources said. Stefanski brings a strong player personnel background, as well as excellent relationships with front-office peers and agents.

The Grizzlies shook up their front office in late May, firing CEO Jason Levien and assistant general manager Stu Lash. Stefanski's hiring will bring much-needed stability to the franchise, writes Wojnarowski:

In the aftermath of CEO Jason Levien's firing in Memphis, Stefanski's hiring is important in delivering Wallace and the organization an experienced, accomplished basketball executive. The return of Wallace to the top basketball job – and the addition of Stefanski – promises to help reconstruct the Grizzlies' credibility around the league.

Stefanski, in addition to his time with the 76ers, spent time in the Nets' organization, and worked as Bryan Colangelo's vice president of basketball operations in Toronto with the Raptors.
