Report: Knicks could try to revive Shumpert deal with Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder may end up with Iman Shumpert after all.

The New York Knicks turned down an offer for Shumpert at the trade deadline involving Oklahoma City's 29th overall pick in the upcoming draft. That was prior to the Knicks hiring general manager Phil Jackson, who is now looking to trade for picks in either round, according to the New York Post.

The Thunder also own the 21st overall pick. General manager Sam Presti told an Oklahoma radio station on Thursday he was considering numerous possibilities with his team's picks, including "moving off the picks entirely, combining them to move around," or "standing and selecting."

Another potential deal involving Shumpert and the Los Angeles Clippers fell through when he suffered a knee injury before the trade deadline.

New York is already reportedly looking at prospects like P.J. Hairston projected to go in the 21-29 range. Whether that is a sign of an impending trade or simply due diligence remains to be seen.

Shumpert's biggest asset is his defensive play, but there are questions about how his sub-par passing will fit in Jackson's triangle offense. The Knicks would also enjoy salary relief by trading Shumpert for a pick. The 23-year-old is set to earn over $2.5 million in 2014-15 while a late first-round pick would cost less than $1.2 million.
