Elton Brand plans to play a 16th NBA season in 2014-15

Elton Brand is looking to do at least one more lap of the NBA.

Having just finished his 15th NBA season at age 35, Brand had openly contemplated retirement at the end of the year. With an estimated $165 million in career earnings, one could hardly blame him for hanging them up to enjoy a life of leisure.

But that's not what Brand has in mind, apparently, and he's already preparing for a 16th year in the league.

“My body feels good,” Brand told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution recently. “I’m already training for next season.”

Brand is not under contract for 2014-15 so it's unclear if he'll return to the Atlanta Hawks or take his services elsewhere. He made $4 million this past season but could be in for a pay cut closer to the $1.45 million veteran minimum.

Despite his advanced age, the 6-foot-8 power forward still proved useful this season, providing veteran leadership and frontcourt depth for the Hawks, especially after Al Horford succumbed to injury. Brand averaged 5.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 19.4 minutes, shooting 53.9 percent from the floor.
