Trail Blazers announce multi-year extension with head coach Terry Stotts

Terry Stotts is staying in Portland for the foreseeable future:

Terms of the agreement weren't released, but a report from The Oregonian's John Canzano suggests the deal is for a guaranteed three years - Stotts' 2014-15 option was exercised, plus two more years.

Here's what general manager Neil Olshey had to say:

Terry has done an outstanding job during his first two years with the organization. This extension illustrates our confidence in him as our head coach as well as the Portland Trail Blazers' continued commitment to building a model of consistency and stability.

Stotts coached Portland to a 54-28 record this past season, and the Trail Blazers made the second round of the playoffs, where they were eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs (there's no shame in that). Stotts has an 87-77 record in two years in Portland.

Stotts said:

Portland is a unique and special place and I'm very proud to be the head coach of the Trail Blazers. We started the process two seasons ago and laid the foundation for success. I look forward to the possibilities of the upcoming seasons.

The move's being lauded across the board:
