Cavaliers remove interim tag, name David Griffin as general manager

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced on Monday that they have named David Griffin as the team's general manager, a position he had held on an interim basis since Feb. 6.

The team released a statement on their official website, including the following from Griffin:

Our ownership’s commitment to this franchise and the fans of Cleveland is absolute. I feel that commitment, not only by the resources they make available but also with their tireless passion for delivering a championship-caliber team. Our entire organization reflects that passion and commitment. I am humbled and honored to be put in position to aggressively work with them, all of our front office staff and anyone who can contribute to achieving that vision.

The move had been expected for several days after the Cavaliers reportedly interviewed several candidates, with nobody topping the in-house incumbent. Griffin is well-respected around the league and it was expected that he would land a GM gig at some juncture.

Perhaps as Griffin's first move - the team was unclear as to the exact timing of the decisions - the Cavaliers also fired head coach MIke Brown after just one year on the job.
