Report: Rockets head coach Kevin McHale will return next season

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Although his Rockets were bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the Portland Trail Blazers, Houston head coach Kevin McHale will reportedly hold his position for at least another season.

Over his three-year tenure as head coach, McHale compiled an aggregate record of 133-97. This season, McHale managed to introduce free-agent center Dwight Howard into his game-plan, and finished the regular season with a record of 54-28.

However, McHale has received criticism for his inability to design an offense that fully maximizes the talents of his two All-Stars in Howard and guard James Harden. He has also been chided for his use of guard Jeremy Lin, who assumed the role of Sixth Man for most of 2014.

McHale's contract includes a team option for 2014-15, but it's unclear at the moment as to whether a new contract is in the works or not.
