Amar'e Stoudemire on his Knicks: 'On paper we might be the best team in the league'

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

There is never a bad time to check out the Knicks Twitter account. Invariably, someone affiliated with the team -- be it owner James Dolan, coach Mike Woodson, or in this case, power forward Amar'e Stoudemire -- is saying something newsworthy. Or, at the very minimum, something hilarious.

On the eve of the Knicks' final home game, Amar'e Stoudemire dropped a series of noteworthy quotes to the media.

On one hand, he's not entirely off-base with his comments. Sure, before any games were played -- thereby entirely 'on paper' -- prognosticators like Vegas had them pegged for somewhere in the range of 45-50 wins, which was just a tad shy of the 61.5 total set for the league-leading Heat, but look at the Knicks on paper.

The Knicks basically came into the 2013-14 season with the same team as the previous year's, and that Knicks team advanced past to the semi-finals in the playoffs.

On paper, the Knicks had former and current All-Stars in Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler, Metta World Peace and Kenyon Martin. That's enough stars to form a constellation. The Big Dipper is both a constellation, and also Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlin's nick-name? Coincidence? Yes.

Finally, some might say that games aren't played on paper, which explains why the Knicks will finish outside of the playoffs in a historically weak Eastern Conference, but that only proves one thing -- you can't disprove Amar'e's claim.
