Shaq to mentor DeMarcus Cousins

New Kings minority owner Shaquille O'Neal has taken on the task of mentoring DeMarcus Cousins.

According to USA Today, O'Neal will handle the basketball sides of things with Cousins while Kings owner Vivek Ranadive deals with the business.

O'Neal and Cousins reportedly had no relationship prior to the former Laker getting involved with the Sacramento franchise, but O'Neal plans on making Cousins the most feared big man in the NBA.

"You hear people say all the time that he's probably the most talented big man in the league, so now if you've got that behind your name, then everything else must follow," O'Neal said. "I'm going to teach him a few things to add to his game."

The Kings owner is also claiming that Cousins is equally as excited to work with the four-time NBA champion.

"DeMarcus is so excited at the thought that (Shaq) is going to be talking to him, going to be spending time with him, going to be watching him, on the practice court, that he just can't contain himself," Ranadive said. "When he first heard that (Shaq) was looking at becoming an investor to the Kings, he just texted me and said, 'Can I please, please reach out to (Shaq)?"

But O'Neal has no plans to change Cousins' game.

"I'm not going to try to change his game - I like his game," O'Neal said. "But he's the leader on our team, so I'll talk to him about leadership and good examples. I'll talk to him about doing things a certain way and doing things consistent. First thing I'm going to say to him is, 'How many points to you want to average?' And hopefully he says 26 or 27, and I'm going to show him an easy way of how to get that and get it every night and expect it and want it and go for that every night. And then I'll also have a conversation with him about how to make his teammates better. I would like Sacramento back where it used to be."
