Report: Sixers held out Okafor because trade was imminent

Jahlil Okafor's tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers appeared to be on life support, with the team electing to keep him out of Saturday's win over the Miami Heat and Monday's outing against the Charlotte Hornets.

The reason behind that decision was that the Sixers were reportedly closing in on a deal to trade him, sources told CSN Philly's Jessica Camerato.

Who the trade partner was and why it fell through is unclear, but regardless, the big man has rejoined his teammates and could be in uniform Wednesday night, when the 76ers battle the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden.

Head coach Brett Brown previously acknowledged that he didn't want to complicate matters by having Okafor travel for the team's two-game road trip, just in case he was dealt and had to head back home.

The New Orleans Pelicans, Denver Nuggets, and Chicago Bulls have all been linked to the 21-year-old ahead of the Feb. 23 deadline.

Okafor is averaging 11.6 points on 51.3 percent shooting, 4.8 rebounds, one dime, and one rejection in 23.2 minutes for the 21-34 Sixers.
