Nets hang 143 on Pelicans to win 1st game of 2017

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Weird stuff goes down in New Orleans.

To wit: On Friday, the Brooklyn Nets scored 143 points, upending the Pelicans by 29. It was the highest output by a Nets team in a non-overtime game since 1982, and it marked Brooklyn's first victory of calendar 2017.

They have won nine games in total this season.

The Nets shot an unconscious 57.8 percent from the floor, including 50 percent from deep. Brook Lopez and Bojan Bogdanovic led the way with 23 points each, but the story was the Brooklyn bench. Five of those players scored in double digits, and six combined to go 26-for-40 off the pine, while the starters shot 22-of-43. Caris LeVert was a perfect 6-for-6, scoring 17 points.

To drive home the weirdness in New Orleans point, Randy Foye was plus-33 and Isaiah Whitehead plus-36.

It's not like the Pelicans are generally a total sieve defensively, either. They came into the contest ranked sixth in the NBA in defensive rating, per Basketball-Reference. They also get the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.
