George: NBA 'has teams they like' so Pacers don't get foul calls

USA Today Sports

All Paul George wants from NBA officials is a little respect, yet no matter how many times he speaks his mind or vents about the lack of fouls going his way, nothing ever seems to change.

Monday's 90-85 loss to the Chicago Bulls added fuel to his ever-growing fire. The Pacers went to the charity stripe just 10 times, with George attempting one shot in 39 minutes. The Bulls, on the other hand, took 28 freebies, connecting on 20.

"I've been fined multiple times," George said afterwards, according to ESPN's Nick Friedell. "I've been vocal to the point where the league issues (a statement), 'Hey, we missed a call. Hey, we missed that.' Officials do it during games (saying), 'I missed that call, I missed this call. We're sorry. We're sorry.' It's getting repetitive. They see it, they know what's going on. They know what's a foul. They know what's not a foul. It comes down from somewhere else how these games are going, I believe."

Indiana isn't one of the NBA's larger markets, and the team hasn't had the level of success required to seemingly warrant consistency from referees. George feels that's become a detriment, and one he's unwillingly had to stomach.

"Since I've been in this jersey we've always fought this battle," he said. "Ever since I've been playing, ever since I've been in this jersey we've fought this battle. Maybe the league has teams they like so they can give them the benefit of the doubt. We're the little brother of the league. We're definitely the little brother of the league."

The Pacers rank in the bottom-third in the Association in free-throw attempts per game (22.4, 22nd), with George accounting for just 4.3 of them - second on the roster behind guard Jeff Teague's 5.4, despite playing nearly four minutes more than Teague.
