Kemba: 'I would love to be in the 3-point contest'

Kemba Walker can shoot threes now.

The point guard has been carrying the Charlotte Hornets' offensive load, scoring the most points at the most efficient rate of his career. He's a virtual lock to make his first All-Star appearance, and he's hoping to be even more involved in February's festivities in New Orleans.

As of Monday, the 26-year-old's made the most threes (58) of any Eastern Conference player. Though long-range shooting has never been his forte - he shot 31.7 percent up until last year - he's been working on it, and so far his efforts are paying off.

Walker's putting up 23.8 points on 46.5 percent shooting from the field and 42 percent from deep. He's so confident with his newfound ability to consistently knock down treys that they make up 38.4 percent of his shot attempts, and he wants to show it off on the grand stage.

"I would love to be in the 3-point contest," he told Marc Stein on his TrueHoop podcast.

"Honestly, never in a million years would I have thought that I would even think about being in the 3-point contest. But it'd be cool. I think I would be super nervous, definitely shoot a few air balls, but that would be cool, though."

What about the dunk contest?

"Negative," he replied, laughing. "No chance."

Two out of three ain't bad.
