Bulls to have zero shooters in starting 5 after Gibson tabbed as PF

In an era when floor spacing and shooting rule supreme, the Chicago Bulls plan to trot out a lineup straight out of the '70s.

Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg named Taj Gibson his starting power forward Tuesday, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune. Gibson outplayed Nikola Mirotic to grab the spot, but that leaves the Bulls with an odd predicament.

Chicago will feature a starting five without a single shooter who hits better than the league average (35.4 percent) from deep. Or, to put it another way: Chicago's starting unit's collective career 3-point percentage totals less than 100.

Position Player 3PT%
PG Rajon Rondo 28.9
SG Dwyane Wade 28.4
SF Jimmy Butler 32.8
PF Taj Gibson 4.5
C Robin Lopez 0.0

Ironically, Hoiberg was hired last season to install a system that relies heavily on outside shooting. But his task now will be to salvage the worst collection of shooters in the league.

At least the team is deep with playmakers, and can call upon Mirotic and Doug McDermott off the bench.
