Knicks' Noah: Rose accuser was trying to make money off him

The New York Knicks are pleased that Derrick Rose's civil sexual assault trial is over, with the point guard and two friends being found not liable over claims they gang-raped a California woman in 2013.

Joakim Noah, like Rose, is also preparing for his first season with the Knicks after playing together for eight years with the Chicago Bulls, says that his friend was a victim of a shakedown attempt.

"It’s great the truth came out," Noah said Wednesday, according to the New York Post's Marc Berman. "We didn't have a point guard for all of preseason. All because of a girl who was trying to make money off my friends ... is just wack."

Noah, who is almost certain to be criticized for tone deafness over the remarks, added that the trial was a distraction "not just him but the whole team because some girl went out of her way to make money off of him."

Sensitive details about Rose's personal life emerged during the trial, which boiled down to whether a sexual encounter between Rose, the plaintiff, and the two friends was consensual. No criminal charges were ever filed against Rose, and now that he has been cleared it is highly unlikely the police will further investigate the matter.

Adidas said on Wednesday that their partnership with Rose remains unchanged. Some had speculated the apparel giant would re-evaluate the deal as a result of a customary morals clause.
