DeMar DeRozan almost broke the internet with an insane 360 dunk attempt over an opponent that unfortunately didn't go down.

He recently revealed what was going through his mind in Team USA's second tuneup versus China, when he was running the fast break with nary a defender around and took flight as he entered the paint.

"What the hell was I thinking?" DeRozan asked Michael Lee of The Vertical while shaking his head and laughing. "I have no clue, from start to finish, what I was trying to do. I'm used to doing the (360) layup. Before you know it, I'm just hanging on the rim.

"Even if I would've made that, how crazy that would've been. When you do something, you really don't realize in the moment, or the time, the magnitude of it. Even with a miss, it's talked about like it's a made dunk, so it's crazy."

Toronto's $139-million man has since redeemed himself by throwing down some spectacular slams in the remaining exhibition contests leading up to the Summer Games. As a result, his Raptors running mate Kyle Lowry, who's also representing USA Basketball, has reverted to calling DeRozan by his Drew League nickname.

"He's back to 'The Hawk' right now," Lowry said. "He doesn't seem like a fiery guy. He seems like he's calm and relaxed. But that kid's very fiery. He loves the game of basketball. People may not see it from the outside, but his competitive nature is crazy."

DeRozan is beginning to show the other sides of his personality now that he's proven himself on the court.

"I just always told myself, I wanted to establish myself as a basketball player, first," he explained. "I want to be known as a helluva basketball player, before I jump out and try to do everything else. Now, at this point in my career, I've established enough to where I can show my personality a bit more. It's going to be a lot more to come."
