Warriors' Thompson went back to sleep after learning of Durant signing

Adding a nine-time All-Star to his team's already potent lineup wasn't enough to keep the Golden State Warriors' Klay Thompson from leaving the warm confines of his bed back in early July.

"I was sleeping," Thompson told The Vertical's Sham Charania, regarding Kevin Durant's decision to join the Warriors, "and my brother came to my room and woke me up to tell me that KD committed.

"I didn’t believe it at first when he told me, so I had to check my phone and verify it. I was like, ‘Seriously? KD really chose us?’ It was an incredible moment for our organization, and I was psyched. We had the final form of our team. And then I went back to sleep."

While the addition of Durant will almost certainly result in a decrease in Thompson's touches going forward, the 26-year-old isn't planning on making any adjustments to his playing style.

"I feel kind of disrespected that people keep using the term sacrifice to describe me and describe us," Thompson added. "We all want to see each other do well. But I’m not sacrificing [expletive], because my game isn’t changing. I’m still going to try to get buckets, hit shots, come off screens. I want to win and have a fun time every game we play."

The NBA season won't begin until next fall, but Durant and Thompson will have an opportunity to see what it's like to play with one another beforehand, as both are members of this summer's USA Olympic team.
