Argentine Patricio Garino pens deal with San Antonio

Weeks ahead of taking the court alongside Manu Ginobili for Argentina at the Olympics in Rio, Patricio Garino is poised to join his countryman at AT&T Center after agreeing to a deal with the San Antonio Spurs.

Spurs announced the signing of the 6-foot-6, 211-pound soft-shooting swingman with a statement on their website Friday. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not revealed.

After going undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft, Garino signed with the Orlando Magic's Summer League team, where he averaged 12 points per game in leading the team to a 5-0 record.

Garino, 23, played four years at George Washington, where he averaged 11.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, plying his trade as a shooting guard and small forward. He was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team in each of last three seasons.

First things first, the Olympics in Rio, where Argentina will be looking to replicate 2004's gold-medal performance.

Sergio Hernandez's squad kicks off their Olympic campaign on Aug. 7 against Nigeria before rounding out Group B play with games against Croatia, Lithuania, Brazil, and Spain.
