Mavericks' Jonathan Gibson: Demonstrates shooting ability in summer league
Gibson was the Mavericks' leading scorer after starting six games in the Las Vegas Summer League, during which he averaged 17 points per game while shooting 50.7 percent from the floor and 45.9 percent from behind the arc.
Analysis:
The Mavs' newly-signed point guard managed to post his respectable scoring line while averaging 24.9 minutes per game. While it's promising that he was able to score at a high rate, there are reasons to be concerned about the 28-year-old's ability to effectively distribute the ball, as Gibson averaged more turnovers than assists per game (2.2 versus 1.7). Currently listed behind Deron Williams, J.J. Barea, and Devin Harris on the depth chart at point guard, Gibson's time on the floor in the coming season is likely to be very limited, giving him few scoring opportunities.
