Lakers won't discipline Young for fireworks stunt
Nick Young avoided disaster on the Fourth of July when he picked up a lit firework that ultimately exploded in his hand and face - a dangerous move which cost New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul part of his hand in an similar incident last year.
While Swaggy P was fortunate enough to not lose any of his extremities, it certainly could have turned out a lot worse for the 31-year-old guard.
Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton is relieved Young walked away unharmed. There also will not be any disciplinary action handed down to nine-year pro as a result of what happened.
"You would hope that things like that don’t happen," Walton said after summer league practice Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Daily News' Mark Medina. "Professional athletes kind of need their hands. But I'm glad he's OK."
Young has two years left on his contract worth roughly $11 million, with a player option for the second season. The Lakers are reportedly expected to buy out the remainder of his deal.
He averaged 7.3 points on just 33.9 percent shooting in 54 appearances last season.
