Report: Knicks, Jamal Crawford have mutual interest in free agency

It's already been an active offseason for the New York Knicks, but their front office is hungry for more, including a potential reunion with Jamal Crawford.

The 36-year-old shooting guard will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and has "strong support" within the Knicks organization, Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reports.

Crawford seems to be similarly enticed by the prospect of a return to New York.

"I'm not talking about any one team but everyone knows how I feel about New York," he told Isola. "I really enjoyed my time there."

Crawford played with the Knicks from 2004-2008, averaging 17.6 points, 4.4 assists, and 1.1 steals in 299 games. It remains his longest tenure with any team, and it produced his highest single-season scoring average (20.6, in 2007-08).

Despite Crawford's exploits, Knicks fans are unlikely to look back on those years fondly, as his teams topped out at 33 wins and never made the playoffs.

Since then, though, he's reinvented himself as a top-shelf microwave off the bench (winning a record three Sixth Man of the Year awards). This iteration of the Knicks could really use his shooting, especially with Arron Afflalo unlikely to return.

The Los Angeles Clippers still hold Crawford's Bird rights and are reportedly keen on re-signing him, but in less than a week, Crawford will be free to choose his own destination.
