The Logo: Curry gets 'no calls'

Jerry West is not happy with how officials treat the two-time MVP.

West, in speaking to reporters after practice on Saturday, was asked how Curry's game would translate if he played during the 60s. The special executive to the Golden State Warriors used the opportunity to clamor for calls.

"He would've been great when we played. He would've gotten knocked on his fanny a lot harder, but he also would've gotten to the free-throw line a little bit more. He doesn't get any calls at all (now). He gets no calls," West said.

Curry led the league in scoring with 30.1 points but he only attempted 5.1 free throws per game. Of the league's top fifteen scorers, free throws made up the second smallest share of Curry's scoring at 15.3 percent. Only Klay Thompson (10.9 percent) had a smaller ratio.

Compare that to how free throws made up for 30.3 percent of James Harden's 29 points per game, and 30.2 percent of DeMar DeRozan's average of 23.5.

The pronounced difference likely speaks to a variation in playing styles. Slashers like Harden, or post-up brutes like DeMarcus Cousins (27.1 percent) will tend to draw more shooting fouls than a perimeter player like Curry.

Nevertheless, given how much Curry is hounded and held on every screen and every cut, it's curious that the league's leading scorer tries so few free throws.
