Westbrook ducks question of defense: Curry 'scored a lot on our bigs'

There were no snide giggles to be heard after the Oklahoma City Thunder squandered a 3-1 series lead against the Golden State Warriors Monday night.

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook shared a hearty chuckle at the expense of Stephen Curry's defensive abilities following Game 5, but it was the two-time MVP who got the last laugh.

Curry scored a game-high 36, including 15 in the fourth quarter, to help the Warriors complete the impossible comeback in Game 7. In the post-game press conference, the questions instead turned to Westbrook's defense, but the surly guard only offered a deflection.

"He scored a lot on our bigs, he did a good job of making some tough shots over our bigs," Westbrook muttered.

Curry did exploit mismatches when he had Steven Adams or Serge Ibaka switched on him. He either used his handles to break down the defense and get to the basket, or he would put slower bigs on skates before dropping the jumper.

But ultimately, Curry was Westbrook's assignment, and he couldn't hold him in check. Those switches onto bigs were forced because Westbrook couldn't track over screens and needed help against the player who he dismissed before the series as, "not nothing I haven't seen."

As for Curry's "laughable" defense, Westbrook shot under 40 percent and averaged five turnovers per-game in squandering three chances to eliminate the Warriors.
