Report: Lin to decline player option to explore free agency

Jeremy Lin is hoping to parlay a solid first season in Charlotte into a larger payday.

The Hornets point guard will reportedly decline his $2.2-million player option for next season in order to explore unrestricted free agency, sources tell Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Lin out produced the two-year, $4.3-million deal he signed with Charlotte last July, averaging 11.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and three assists per contest in 78 games this season.

The 27-year-old finds himself among the top free-agent point guards available this summer alongside Mike Conley, Rajon Rondo, Deron Williams, and Brandon Jennings.

Lin has bounced around three different organizations over the last three years, averaging 11.8 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.9 rebounds during stints with Los Angeles, Houston, and most recently Charlotte.
