Wade, Whiteside receive treatment for knee injuries
The Miami Heat gutted through more than just a deflating game-tying heave at the buzzer Tuesday night to beat the Toronto Raptors in overtime and take a 1-0 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series.
Both shooting guard Dwyane Wade and center Hassan Whiteside finished Game 1 despite suffering knee injuries. Whiteside took an awkward spill in the second quarter and temporarily retreated to the locker room, while Wade hit the ground hard on a chaotic inbounds play near the end of regulation.
"I hit the bone, and I'm sure it's bruised," Wade said after the game.
The Heat announced that Wade and Whiteside received treatment on their knees Wednesday, and will be reevaluated ahead of Game 2 on Thursday. The type of treatment wasn't specified, nor was the extent of the injuries.
Wade, at least, appears to be optimistic.
"It's not as bad as I originally thought it was," he said. "I'm optimistic that tomorrow I'll be fine."
The Heat will have to hope so. Wade and Whiteside combined for 33 points, 23 rebounds, four assists, five steals, and three blocks in Game 1.
