Dirk Nowitzki played his heart out in an exhaustive effort in Game 4, but he couldn't prevent the inevitable.
The 37-year-old German logged 40 minutes and hung 27 points on an elite defender in Serge Ibaka in a 119-108 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. The loss dropped the Mavericks to 1-3 in the series.
A dejected Nowitzki, limping heavily after bearing a Herculean workload on his aging bones, somberly strolled off the court and into the locker room after what was quite possibly his last playoff game at the American Airlines Center.
