Bogut: Wins record won't matter without championship

Andrew Bogut appreciates the historical significance of his Golden State Warriors possibly setting the NBA regular-season record for wins, but he's more concerned with the bigger picture.

"The end goal is, whether we go 50-32 or whether we break the record, if we don't get a ring the season doesn't mean s--t," Bogut told Courtney Cronin of the Mercury News.

Chasing history has proved to be a daunting task as the Warriors have stumbled a bit of late.

After dropping two of their last three games at home, the Warriors will be hard pressed to challenge the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' record 72-win season. Sitting at 69-9 with four games remaining - including two apiece against the San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies - Golden State must go undefeated to break the record.

The talk of running down the Bulls has followed the Warriors for the better part of the season. With the end in sight, Stephen Curry has expressed his desire to make history. Draymond Green acknowledged he's ready for the regular season to end. Head coach Steve Kerr believes it would be an accomplishment, but would rather focus on getting his team ready for a title run.

For Bogut, he's only thinking about the record because he's being asked.

"We're not focused on it but we get asked it every day, so just human nature, you're going to be thinking about it more than you should," Bogut said.
