With NBA training staffs engaged in something of an arms race involving technologically sophisticated ways to improve performance, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova went a little too far.

Dellavedova sported a wearable fitness gadget for 15 games before the league told the Cavaliers on Thursday that it wasn't allowed, ESPN's Tom Haberstroh reports.

Dellavedova's wristband didn't enhance his performance, but collected biometric data. It's become commonplace for players to wear such devices during practices, and LeBron James wears the same wristband while he trains.

The Australian guard confirmed to ESPN on Sunday that he now has to remove the wristband, but didn't offer further comment.

The league prohibits wearable technology from being used in games.
