Werdum seeks to avenge previous losses as heavyweight champion

UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio "Vai Cavalo" Werdum seems to have it all figured out.

The 37-year-old jiu-jitsu black belt knows who he wants to face, and when, as the current king. His immediate plans are to requite losses to Andrei "The Pit Bull" Arlovski and Junior "Cigano" dos Santos.

Vai Cavalo lost to The Pit Bull in 2007 by unanimous decision, and as a result of Arlovski's rejuvenation among the cohort, Dana White said either he or Stipe Miocic are first in line for a shot at the title.

"I would like to fight Arlovski because it was a close fight, a split decision, an ugly fight that nobody liked, and I think I won," Werdum said to MMAFighting's Guilherme Cruz.

After that, barring a loss to Arlovski that would knock him down from the top of the grouping, it's Cigano's turn.

"Arlovski next might be a good idea. After that, Cigano. But I take step by step," he said.

The recently crowned undisputed champion said he explored the idea of granting former champ Cain Velasquez an instant rematch, but decided against it.

"When it's a close fight, when there's doubt, or when it's a quick finish, you do an immediate rematch," Werdum said. "But I did everything I was planning to do and then got him with that guillotine. People saw there's no need for rematch now."

The Kings MMA member also shared the enticing thought of an all-Brazilian headliner against dos Santos at the Arena do Gremio in Porto Alegre, a multipurpose stadium with a capacity of 50,000.

Werdum believes it would be an unbelievable experience for both himself and the city's mixed martial arts fans.

"The people from Porto Alegre love fights, especially now that they have one of them in the UFC. I'm sure that we would have 40, 50,000 people at the arena for this fight. We would break the UFC record," Werdum said.

While the heavyweight champion seems to have plenty of ideas, Dana White and the UFC haven't finalized any decisions.
