Twitter to consider broadcasting live UFC events

The UFC and Twitter could soon be teaming up on a bold new venture.

Twitter COO and CFO Anthony Noto told BuzzFeed's Alex Kantrowitz there's a need for fresh live video content on the app now that a deal with the NFL to air "Thursday Night Football" games is finished. That NFL partnership opened Noto's eyes to the benefits of hosting programs 24/7, and he mentioned the possibility of airing UFC events due to those shows typically generating strong buzz on social media.

"We have a really big audience when there's a pay-per-view UFC match," Noto said. "Should we provide that content to the audience on Twitter that's not watching it, but might like to after seeing tweets about it? That's something we'd consider."

The UFC has its own online Fight Pass service to broadcast preliminary bouts, original programming, and the occasional online-exclusive card, but teaming up with Twitter could be the next step in its quest for digital domination.

Twitter's partnership with the NFL proved it was capable of reaching millions of viewers and the company looks to be a legitimate live broadcasting platform for the foreseeable future.
