Nurmagomedov won't give McGregor rematch if he beats him for title
Khabib Nurmagomedov is all but guaranteed a title shot should he defeat Tony Ferguson for an interim championship at UFC 209.
If Nurmagomedov can follow that up by knocking off lightweight king Conor McGregor, it could be a while before McGregor gets a rematch. "The Eagle" told ESPN's Brett Okamoto that he plans to move on to other contenders once he wraps up his business with Ferguson and McGregor.
"I'm gonna finish (Ferguson). After, finish Conor," said Nurmagomedov. "After I finish Conor, UFC maybe want to make rematch with Conor, but I'll say 'no.' Calm down, you have to stay in line. (Then I will) fight another opponent, defend the title, fight with another real contender."
The 155-pound division is currently in a state of limbo with McGregor apparently taking time off until May as he awaits the birth of his first child. That's a problem considering the depth of the lightweight roster, but Nurmagomedov sounds like he's ready to take on all challengers should he end up with the gold around his waist.
So long as that challenger's name isn't McGregor, that is.
