Union midfielder Zach Pfeffer heads to Rapids to complete SuperDraft trade
The 2016 MLS SuperDraft is done and dusted, but there was just one final bit of business to attend to: Which player would the Philadelphia Union trade to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for the No. 2 overall pick?
That loose end was tidied Friday afternoon as the two clubs announced that midfielder Zach Pfeffer is heading to Colorado.
"Zach has grown from a 15-year-old teenager to a 21-year-old man during his time with the Union," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said in a statement. "His development as a player and teammate both on and off the pitch has been a credit to our organization and we thank him for his devotion and efforts during the past five years."
Pfeffer completes Thursday's deal, which also sent general allocation money to the Rapids. Philadelphia used the No. 2 pick to select central defender Joshua Yaro out of Georgetown University.
Pfeffer joined the Union in 2010, signing at only 15 years of age and becoming one of the youngest players in MLS history. He departs the club having made 30 appearances, including 21 last season, scoring three goals in total.
