Violence in Central America took the life of another footballer on Sunday, as Alfredo Pacheco was shot to death in his homeland of El Salvador.

The Fiscalia General de la Republica de El Salvador (El Salvador's attorney general) confirmed that Pacheco, 33, was the lone death in a shooting that took place at a gas station at 3:30 a.m. CT. The shooting left two others wounded.

According to El Salvador Noticias, citing a report from the Instituto de Medicina Legal and a forensic doctor, the gas station was situated in Santa Ana. Pacheco was shot three times from a distance of just over one metre, with a shot to the abdomen killing him instantly.

Back in 2013, Pacheco was one of 14 players from El Salvador's national team to receive a worldwide, lifetime ban from all football-related activity due to match-fixing. The sanctions, handed down by FIFA, were the result of El Salvador's 2-1 loss to the United States in a 2010 friendly, among other matches.

Upon hearing of Pacheco's death, a number of the clubs where he featured were quick to express their condolences, including Club Deportivo FAS, the New York Red Bulls, and C.D. Aguila:

It was only two-and-a-half weeks ago that Arnold Peralta - a member of Honduras' national team - was shot to death in a shopping mall parking lot in his hometown of La Ceiba, Honduras.
