Didier Drogba rules out Premier League loan move

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba says that while he would be flattered to receive a loan offer from a Premier League side, he would prefer to recuperate in the offseason so he can hit the ground running with the Montreal Impact in 2016.

The Ivorian returned to Stamford Bridge during the last Premier League season, tallying four strikes in eight starts of Chelsea's title-winning campaign, but he is now focused on the new and perhaps final chapter of his career in Canada.

"I would be honoured of course, but I think I need to rest and take care of my family and then come back to Montreal and have a good season," he told Sky Sports' "Goals on Sunday" programme.

He certainly had a telling impact in his debut Major League Soccer campaign, scoring 12 goals in 12 starts with performances that rolled back the years to his pomp at Chelsea.

It could have been so different, though; Drogba revealed that he was close to wearing the claret and blue of West Ham, as the east London club made an approach for him when he was plying his trade in Brittany.

"I was at Guingamp at that time," he said. "I'd just arrived at the club and they came to my house and spoke, but it didn't happen. I wasn't ready to go."

The rest is history. Drogba became a hero at Chelsea, picking up four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, a Champions League winners' medal, and three victories in League Cup finals during his time with the Blues.

He feels such an affinity for the club that he says he would return in any capacity.

"As I said, as an ambassador, as a kit man - it shows the love I have for this club. Garry Grey (Chelsea kit man) is in trouble. Gary, I'm coming for you!"
