Columbus Crew fans had a little fun Saturday night, mocking the name of their opposition, Sporting Kansas City, with a banner inspired by "The Simpsons."
Sporting KC changed its name from the Kansas City Wizards back in 2011, following the naming patterns of some European teams. Much like Real Salt Lake drew inspiration from teams like Real Madrid, Kansas adopted the Sporting prefix of teams such as Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon or Spanish side Sporting Gijon.
Crew fans, however, pointed out that the verb tense of the word "Sporting" in front of the name of the city might also sound like something Ralph Wiggum would say.
To add insult to, well, insult, the Crew also took all three points Saturday, beating Sporting KC 3-2 in Ohio.
