New York City's Frank Lampard available to make MLS debut Saturday vs. Montreal Impact

Frank Lampard, the former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder and MLS All-Star, is set to make his league debut at long last when New York City FC hosts the Montreal Impact at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

Lampard, who joined the team in early July, has been dealing with a nagging calf injury that's prevented him from making his debut with NYCFC. But, this Saturday, he'll finally line up alongside David Villa and Andrea Pirlo, marking the start of his new chapter in MLS.

"We’ve really only had three training sessions for him to be available in," NYCFC head coach Jason Kreis said. "We’ve built him up throughout the week. Today, as you saw, he trained full so he’s in contention for tomorrow.

"He’s a player you don’t want to just throw out there and throw him to the wolves a bit. He has to be built into the soccer fitness because he’s been out for quite a long time."

It will be the first time all three of New York City's Designated Players will line up together, and the game could also include the debut of Montreal's newest star, Didier Drogba.

"It’s exciting to be at a place where we almost have all of our players available for the very first time this year," Kreis said. "We still have one or two small injuries, but to have all the big guns ready and available tomorrow is exciting."
