Toronto FC confirms Jozy Altidore suffered hamstring injury vs. New England

Even when things go right for Toronto FC, they don't.

The club had traversed its mammoth seven-match road trip to begin the season, coming out with a respectable nine points. Their high-priced attacking duo of Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore were looking more comfortable playing alongside one another each week. And they were on their way to a 1-1 draw with the New England Revolution on Saturday - at Gillette Stadium, no less.

It was all too good to be true. Something had to go wrong.

The club confirmed Saturday that Altidore suffered a hamstring injury against the Revs. The American international left the contest in the 21st minute after making a pass across the box and immediately reaching for his leg and calling for a substitution.

The severity of the ailment is not yet known, though head coach Greg Vanney seemed optimistic.

"I don't have a real indication of how bad it is or how long it will take for Jozy," said Vanney after the game. "But when I saw him he looked positive."

Altidore leads Toronto with five goals through eight matches this season, and while his injury is of obvious concern to the brass in the Canadian city, it will also have the attention of United States manager Jurgen Klinsmann ahead of the Gold Cup, which is set to begin July 7.
