Crew-Earthquakes Preview

While they certainly haven't had trouble scoring at home, the Columbus Crew haven't found the formula to replicating that production on the road.

They'll try again to discover it as they go for their first road win Saturday night against the San Jose Earthquakes, who are looking forward to their first home match since early April.

The Crew (4-3-2) have scored a league-high 13 times at home, totaling 10 during a three-game winning streak there.

Kei Kamara had two goals and Federico Higuain added a score as Columbus beat visiting Seattle 3-2 last Saturday. Five of Kamara's league high-tying seven goals have come at home.

Columbus, though, has been shut out three times in going 0-2-2 on the road this year. The club is 0-4-4 in its last eight away from home against Western Conference opponents.

Kamara has both of the Crew's road goals this season, scored in a 2-all draw with Vancouver on April 8.

"If we can just play our game, play our style, it doesn't really matter (where we play)," he told the team's official website. "We are playing better soccer right now than most teams in the league. If we can go (into San Jose) with the right mentality we can definitely get something from that game."

The Crew have gone 0-1-6 in the last seven meetings with the Earthquakes (4-4-2). Higuain and Chris Wondolowski accounted for the scoring in a 1-all tie at Buck Shaw Stadium in the most recent meeting April 13, 2014.

Wondolowski ranks among the MLS leaders with five goals after scoring twice in his last three matches. One of those came in last Friday's 1-all draw at Colorado as the Earthquakes completed a 1-0-2 road swing over eight days that included challenging matchups with Real Salt Lake and Houston.

"To go unbeaten on a trip, when you look at the conditions we played in, which is altitude, a little bit of heat and humidity, and then back up to higher altitude, it's positive," coach Dominic Kinnear told the team's official website.

After going 2-1-2 over its past five matches - the last four away from home - San Jose is returning Avaya Stadium for the first time since improving to 2-1 there with a 1-0 win over Vancouver on April 11.

The Earthquakes' David Bingham has 33 saves, among the most in MLS. He's allowed four goals in his last five matches and two in the three at home.

Columbus has agreed to part ways with Hernan Grana, granting the player's wish to return home to address family issues in Argentina. Coach Gregg Berhalter said the defender struggled with adapting to a new country and team.
