Rapids-Galaxy Preview

The Los Angeles Galaxy have faced the Colorado Rapids more than any other team in MLS, and no matchup was more lopsided than the most recent.

The Rapids will have a tough time redeeming themselves and continuing their steady road play Saturday night with Los Angeles riding a 23-match unbeaten streak at home heading into the 66th all-time regular season edition of this Western Conference rivalry.

The 65th such meeting saw Colorado lose 6-0 at Los Angeles on Sept. 5, the largest margin of victory ever between the clubs - including seven playoff games. With the focal point of that effort, Landon Donovan - who scored two goals with two assists - now retired, and last season's leading scorer Robbie Keane still out with an injured groin, the Galaxy (3-2-3) have had a more balanced offensive attack during their current three-game undefeated streak.

That run, which began after back-to-back shutout losses, started with Alan Gordon scoring in a 1-0 win over Seattle on April 12 before Baggio Husidic and Omar Gonzalez had goals in a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City six days later. Perhaps the most encouraging performance, however, came Sunday from 18-year-old Bradford Jamieson IV, who became the second-youngest player in club history to score in a 1-1 draw with New York.

"He's very good, you know," forward Gyasi Zardes said. "... He's not afraid to go at the defender, which is phenomenal for us. Just to be a pacey forward is wonderful in this league. You can just run past defenders."

Los Angeles is 3-0-1 at StubHub Center this season as part of an 18-0-5 home record since last year's 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake in the season opener. That's the last time the Galaxy were shut out at home.

The only goal the Rapids (1-2-5) have allowed on the road, where they are 1-0-3, came in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with New York. They join the Red Bulls as the only teams yet to suffer an away loss.

Gabriel Torres notched his team-leading third goal for Colorado, which has scored in four straight matches after being blanked in its first four.

"I think we created some things. We were let down by a few situations out on the field that could have easily gone our way that change the course of the game, but that's football," coach Pablo Mastroeni said. "We control what we can. I think the effort was spectacular. The guys executed what we wanted to achieve here almost to a 'T' here, the only thing lacking was scoring that second goal."

Along with Keane, Los Angeles' Jose Villarreal also figures to miss Saturday's contest as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury suffered during participation with the U.S. Under-23 national team.

The Galaxy are 26-7-2 all-time at home against Colorado, outscoring the Rapids 10-1 in the last five at StubHub Center.
