MLS Game Summary - Colorado at Philadelphia
Chester, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rapids held on for a point in a scoreless draw against the Philadelphia Union despite playing with 10 men for the final 20-plus minutes on Saturday at PPL Park.
Colorado opened the 2015 season riding a 14-match winless run dating back to 2014, and while that streak is extended to 15, it could be seen as a good point away from home.
Chances were few and far between in the first half, but Philadelphia had the first good chance in the 53rd minute as Cristian Maidana had a go from the top of the box. The ball took a deflection and just missed the left post.
Colorado draft selection Dominique Badji got free for a chance in the 62nd minute, rounding Union defender Steven Vitoria for an attempt, but he skewed it wide of the goal.
The visitors then went down to 10 men in the 68th minute when defender Bobby Burling pulled down Union forward Sebastien Le Toux from behind and was shown his second yellow card.
Playing with the extra man, Philadelphia's best chance came four minutes from time as Maidana whipped a free kick to the near post where Conor Casey got his head to it, but Rapids goalkeeper Clint Irwin came up with an excellent reaction save.
The fourth official's board showed six minutes of extra time, but neither team could find a winner and were forced to share the spoils.
